MineAfrica at PDAC 2016 report
It might have been the warm weather - a rarity during recent PDAC's - that contributed to a somewhat sunnier mood at the 2016 convention. We were happy for both and hope they set a positive trend through 2016.
We ran a number of events during the convention - read below for more information on each of the following:
International security expert Alan Bell of Globe Risk International led our 1-day MASTERMINING course: "International Travel Security for Miners at the Radisson Admiral Hotel on March 6 where participants learned how to develop a proactive approach to preventing and dealing with kidnapping, bribery, terrorist acts, vandalism and security threats around the world. We are pleased to announce that this course is also available in a customized version, modified to your organizations specific needs and can be delivered in-house. Contact Wayne Floreani for more information.
MineAfrica held its annual panel discussion with leading South African law firm Webber Wentzel on "The African Mining Vision - what African countries are doing (and can do) to encourage investment in the current market" on Sunday March 6, 2016 - the opening day of PDAC.
Panelists for this interactive and lively debate included Manus Booysen, Partner, Webber Wentzel, Sipho Methula, Partner, Webber Wentzel, Godfrey Oliphant, Deputy Minister of Mineral Resources, Republic of South Africa, the Hon. The sold-out breakfast - the biggest African mining event in North America - featured opening addresses by Godfrey Oliphant, Deputy Minister of Mineral Resources, Republic of South Africa and Frank Mugyenyi, Senior Industry Advisor, African Union Commission (AUC), Department of Trade & Industry (Leveraging the African Mining Vision) and a keynote address by Sipho Pityana, Chairman of AngloGold Ashanti (Defining Partnerships the Endure Commodity Bear Markets). The Chamber also announced its expansion to cover the whole of the African continent.
